Did you know that I’m a Dreamer? That’s what I call myself. I dream big and make
goals for myself, because I am a part of the “I Have a Dream” Foundation. This small
detail makes me a very unique person. Being in the “I Have a Dream” Foundation, I
have learned that taking chances is a large part of growing up and achieving goals in
life. This organization has helped me to overcome personal obstacles and to
take chances that on my own I would not have been able to tackle.

During my third grade year at Clark Elementary, I met Ms. Erica Lloyd and joined the “I
Have a Dream” program. She has been one of the most influential people in my life.
She makes sure that the Dreamers have all the necessary tools we need to succeed
academically, and she also helps us get back on track if we have fallen off course.
With her helping hand, my mindset has changed in such a way that all I think
about is succeeding and continuing my education.

I started in the “I Have A Dream” program when I was young. I didn’t know what was to
come or what was expected of me in the future, but now that I have grown up, I’ve
realized that this program has given me many opportunities. First I needed to buckle
down and get my grades right. Now that I am moving in the right direction, my head is
on my shoulders, and I’m doing what’s right for me and not what other people think is
cool. The “I Have A Dream” program gave me the confidence I needed to care
about school and to set my goal on college. This is my next dream.

I have so many people to acknowledge for becoming who I am… The “I Have a
Dream” program also deserves a lot of credit for my maturity and helping me
make it this far in my education. I can surely say that I have become more
independent, I can say that I am ready for college studies. Today I’m up for the
challenges that life will throw at me.

There are two things no one can take from me – my education and my happiness. In
my life, the “I Have a Dream” Foundation has aided me in obtaining my education and
finding happiness. My Project Coordinator, Erica Lloyd, has kept me on the right track
for ten years. At times I felt like she was the only one who would listen. Not only was
Ms. Lloyd there for me, the other Dreamers always showed me that they cared.
Because of their support, I have transformed from a little caterpillar into the beautiful
butterfly I was meant to be.
